GridWise Profile: Your Personal Electricity Savings Dashboard

What Is GridWise Profile Mode?

GridWise Profile is a personalized comparison mode that instantly overlays your actual home energy data onto every plan in our database. Instead of estimating costs from generic usage averages, Profile mode calculates what each plan would actually cost you based on your real smart meter history.

When you activate Profile mode, the base GridWise layout stays exactly the same. Your category tabs, filters, and plan rows all remain in place. But the data layer changes completely. Every plan row gains a green "Save $X/mo" or red "+$X/mo" savings badge calculated against your current electricity costs. A Best Match card highlights the plan with the lowest net monthly cost for your home.

If your current plan already beats every available alternative, Profile tells you that directly with a "You're on the best available rate" confirmation instead of recommending a switch that would cost you more.

An Extension of Your WattTrim Investment

If you are a WattTrim Sentinel Monitoring subscriber, you have already done the work. You uploaded your smart meter data, entered your current plan details, and built a complete energy profile in the WattTrim Portal. GridWise Profile takes that same profile and puts it to work here.

There is no second signup, no re-entering your plan details, and no running through the full audit steps again. Profile mode reads directly from the subscriber profile you already maintain in the WattTrim Portal. Your usage history, current rate, solar exports, VPP credits, service area, and plan information all carry over automatically.

This means GridWise Profile is always as current as your portal data. When market rates shift or a new wave of plans hits the Texas market, you can open GridWise, toggle Profile mode, and instantly see how every new plan stacks up against your actual costs. No re-uploading, no waiting for a new audit report.

And when your usage patterns change (a new season, a new appliance, a home renovation), you simply upload fresh SMT data through the portal's re-upload feature. That updated data flows into GridWise Profile the next time you toggle it on. One upload in the portal refreshes your personalized view everywhere.

The Math Behind the Numbers

Most comparison tools take your average annual usage, multiply it by an advertised rate, and call it a day. That flat-average math is how homeowners get burned by seasonal spikes. A plan that looks cheap at 1,000 kWh/month might hit expensive pricing tiers during a 2,000 kWh Texas summer.

GridWise Profile runs a month-by-month piecewise cost analysis using the same calculation engine that powers the WattTrim premium audit system. Here is what that means in practice:

  • Your most recent 12 months of historical smart meter data are evaluated individually
  • Each month's actual kWh consumption is run through the plan's real pricing tiers, not a blended average
  • Regional TDU delivery charges (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP, TNMP) are calculated separately using exact delivery-only rates for your service area
  • The result is what you would have actually paid on that plan over a full calendar year, accounting for every seasonal swing
For solar customers, the system goes further. Profile mode calls the WattTrim audit engine server-side, running your exact usage, export volumes, and rate data through the same calculation pipeline used in a paid WattTrim electricity audit. The plan rankings you see in GridWise Profile are identical to what a full audit report produces.

How Solar and Battery Data Is Handled

If you have a home solar array or battery system, standard comparison sites cannot help you. They have no way to account for export credits, buyback rates, or Virtual Power Plant (VPP) enrollments. GridWise Profile handles all of this.

Solar exports are factored in month by month. Instead of using a flat annual average, Profile mode uses your actual per-month export kWh from your smart meter data. This matters because solar production in July looks nothing like solar production in January. VPP credits follow strict rules to keep comparisons honest:
  • Your existing VPP credit (for example, $33/month from a Tesla Powerwall enrollment) applies only to your current plan calculation. That credit reflects your specific arrangement with your current provider.
  • Alternative plans that advertise their own VPP programs get credited at their advertised rate, but only if your home has the battery hardware to participate.
  • Alternative plans without a VPP program get zero VPP credit. No inflated savings from credits you would never receive.
Net metering and buyback plans are identified automatically. Any plan with a solar export rate shows "Net Metering: Yes" in the expanded details so you can quickly filter for plans that compensate your solar production.

What You Actually Get

Here is the full picture of what Profile mode adds to the standard GridWise comparison:

Personalized savings badges on every plan row showing the exact monthly dollar difference compared to your current costs. Not estimates from industry averages. Your actual costs from your actual meter. Best Match recommendation identifying the single lowest-cost plan for your specific usage pattern, service area, and energy setup. If no plan beats your current rate, you get confirmation instead of a misleading recommendation. Real-time market checks without re-auditing. When new plans enter the market or existing plans change pricing, toggle Profile mode and see the impact on your bottom line immediately. The full WattTrim audit workflow (upload, wait, generate report) is replaced by a single click. Continuous accuracy tied to your portal profile. As you upload new smart meter data in the portal, your Profile results update to reflect your latest usage. Your comparison is never stale as long as you keep your portal data current. Solar-aware sorting that automatically opens the Solar tab for solar customers and ranks plans by actual net savings after exports and credits.

All of this is included in your Sentinel Monitoring subscription at no additional cost. If you are already paying $4.99/month for monitoring, savings alerts, and contract tracking, GridWise Profile is a built-in benefit you can use anytime.

How to Activate Your Profile

Activating Profile mode takes about ten seconds:

  1. Go to GridWise. Head to the comparison page at gridwiseaudit.com.
  1. Toggle Profile mode. Click the "Profile" toggle button above the plan table.
  1. Enter your email. Type the email address associated with your WattTrim monitoring subscription.
  1. View your results. The platform validates your subscription, loads your profile data, and replaces the generic view with personalized savings badges and your Best Match recommendation.
If you are a solar customer, Profile mode automatically opens the Solar tab so you immediately see the plans that matter most to your setup.

Keeping Your Results Current

Your GridWise Profile results are only as good as the data behind them. Here is how to keep them accurate:

Usage data: Upload a fresh 15-minute interval CSV from Smart Meter Texas through the re-upload feature in your WattTrim Portal. The portal accepts up to 24 months of rolling data, and each upload updates your profile automatically. Plan details: If you switch providers or renegotiate your rate, update your current plan information in the portal. Profile mode reads your plan name, rate, and provider directly from your profile.
